Stiegler’s Gorge in the Selous Reserve is 100 metres deep and 100 metres wide, which has allowed the reserve to build a cable car across the gorge for visitors to travel on and view the area. Travellers are also able to fish for Tiger Fish and Vandu in the rivers of Kilombero Game Controlled Area which is situated west of Selous. Provided an armed guard accompanies you, walking safaris can be organised from camps.

The area is also popular for elephants which surround the park area in large populations. The Reserve also has an abundance of other wildlife animals which range from the hippo, Nvasaland anu, brindled anu, hartebeest, greater kudu, sable antelope, wildebeest, reedbuck warthog, bushbuck, zebra, eland, giraffes and predators such as the lion, leopard, spotted hyena and hunting dog. There is also depleted numbers of rhinos within the park, and on the opposite side of the scale there is a large abundance of buffalos throughout the park. The park is also inhibited with over 350 bird species and reptiles, of which include crocodiles and various types of snakes and lizards.
The park itself is made up of varied terrain, ranging from volcanic springs, lakes, Great Rhaha and Rufihi rivers to savannah woodland, grassland plains and rocky outcrops.

The game reserve is classified as a World Heritage Site, which is why it is a must-see region of Tanzania. This natural beauty, evokes a strong sense of the African outback and wildlife - it is an untouched resemblance of pure heaven.
