Description | Climate | Attractions | Recommendations

This wild, under developed National Park hosts the second largest elephant sanctuary in Africa. With an estimated 12, 000 elephants in the park, it is also dominated by large herds of buffalos and greater and lesser kudo, Grant’s gazelle, wild dog, ostrich’s, cheetahs, sable antelopes and over 400 bird species. Hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds find comfort in the eastern side of the park, where the Great Ruaha River flows.

Ruaha National Park is interrelated with an extensive ecosystem that encompasses the adjoining Rungwa and Kisigo game reserves, stretched over the 13, 000 sq. km area. The park averages about 900m in height, over the undulating plateau that has the occasional rocky outcrops and to the south and west are the mountains that reach up to 1600m and 1900m, respectively. The park is fairly undeveloped, and it is management’s top goal to preserve this untouched, serene National Park. Due to its vastness in size, the park has a certain degree of charm and character to it so if you are intending to visit the area then a considerable amount of time should be set aside to embrace the park and its natural, wildlife and beauty.
