Mafia Island

Mafia Island is protected as part of Mafia Island Marine Park, which is Tanzania’s first, and largest marine park in the western Indian Ocean. This Island is diverse in nature as its natural, serene environment attracts and enchants visitors of all ages and walks of life.

The Island of Juani, which is located of the coast of Mafia Island withholds a variety of historical ruins that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. However, there is little remains of ruins above ground from the early Shirazi settlement.

Chloe Island, which is measured at about 1km in length is home to a picturesque sight of historical ruins, that have been covered with overgrown greenery. The ruins themselves date back to the 19th century, and there is two short but intriguing, worthwhile nature & history trails.
