The forests covering the slopes of Ngurdoto Crater are home to the rare black and white colobus monkey, which has become the park's emblem. Numerous brilliantly coloured butterflies can also be seen.
Momela Lakes
The Momela Lakes ae shallow and alkaline and because of this the lakes attract a large variety of wader birds which includes Flamingoes. Birdlife varies from lake to lake and this is because the lakes are fed by underlying streams and because of the varying mineral content of each lake. Each lake will tend ot have a different colour, this is due to the varying mineral content of each lake which supports a different type of algal growth.
Mount Meru
Mount Meru is an area of lush forests and are rocks. There is a spectacular crater and you can see evidece of previous volcanic activity with the ash cone that sits on top of the mountain.
